It’s magazine arrival week & nearly fell over when I saw the cover for Los Angeles Magazine dedicated to cheap eats! Seeing how everything is “recession” targeted, I can really appreciate the breakdown. It’s taken the best of the best from tacos, pizza, hot dogs to burgers & fries. Most are under $15 & a perfect excuse to explore more of the changing LA restaurant/retail landscape.  Feeling inspired to try new cheap eats, (restaurants close way too early in LA) I settled for the new Jack in The Box mini sirloin burgers & they are suprisingly sublime. Three cheesy, burgers filled with grilled onions, ketchup on a soft buttery bun. (I did add some mustard which made them deliciously complete) For under $6 bucks it’s enough to keep me thinking about them the next day—-cheesy goodness.

I am so excited to get out of LA for a bit. I haven’t been able to travel as much as I’d like, but I really hope that changes. Every once in while, its nice to get out of your comfortable surroundings & explore a new place or revisit a favorite haunt. I’m heading to San Francisico this weekend & for me trips always represent an opportunity to try some new food. We are staying near Union Square & I’m already craving my favorite breakfast from a cheesy fake 50′s diner, Lori’s Diner. Filled with random crap on the wall, served with a side of nostalgia & delicious American food.

Kat Dennings is on NYLON Magazine’s “Young Hollywood” issue! Everytime she appears on magazines or in interviews, I actually look forward to reading about what she has to say. She’s trully charming & I can’t wait to see her in The Answer Man formally Arlen Faber playing a spacey hippie (funny enough not what she is) & Robert Rodriguez’s Shorts. Olivia Thirlby is also on the cover & has the quick wit to keep up with Dennings in their “coffee tawk”, with Nylon’s Stephanie Trong. Here’s a few quotes I loved…

On “Perfect Hollywood”—-”Hopefully, the tide is turning. Personally, when I see a movie starring the perfect blah girl with the hunk guy, I’m just like, ‘Oh, screw this. I don’t wanna watch this. Who cares what happens to you guys?’ “

It’s currently 96 degrees in South LA. I hate this crap. I can’t stand it. I went outside for a brief second to see if the heat subsided. Its was soo damn hot that it smelled like hamburgers to the 2nd power. (To explain this further, there is hamburger stand around the corner) The smell of greasy fries is slowly seeping through my windows, taunting me. Another reason the weather should go back to normal. Just before work ended the other day, customers were so excited that this “90 degree” weather was coming. Why exactly? Even if your at the beach, you’ll practically burn to death. That’s why if you’re visiting LA, you’ll see nasty tans & freckles on the women with fake lips, who by the way create the LA stereotype. (Half the people that give LA a bad name are transplants obssesed with what they think “LA” should be) Meh, here’s a shot from yesterday at the Beverly Center, getting a birthday present. Beautiful except for when I climbed back into my steaming car.

Monica is…back to being 5 years old.

I saw this on my way to work & had an internal explosion of happiness! Mister Rogers was always in delicate perv territory with his weird show, but I was a strange child anyways & loved it anyway. The crappy puppets, cheesy segments & where I  first really learned about fashion. He encouraged my appreciation for cardigans (I own way too many now). I hope this is still there when I have the extra cash. It has a lifetime guarantee? Cool.
