Monica is…clouds & Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week!

It finally got cloudy here in L.A. & from what I understand it was the same in NYC. Over the weekend, I decided that if I couldn’t actually travel to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I’d just pretend to. I purchased a ticket for The September Issue with Anna Wintour, watched Lagerfeld Confidential & viewed most of the shows in pajamas! Here are just a few of my favorites from spring 2010…but I absolutely loved Zac Posen’s collection!

Monica is…reading & happy.

Last week, I filled my apt with a binge fest of fall magazines & yummy reads! Seeing that funds are at low points this month & can’t bare to bring my “sky high” dreams down, I found these magazines & books to be quite relaxing & inspiring. The Satorialist by Scott Schuman & The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe by J. Randy Taraborrelli, were two books that sent my emotions on very opposite spectrums.

collageMany biographies have been written about Marilyn Monroe, but J. Randy Taraborrelli was able to compile a slew of never before seen photos & private stories from friends & family members, who felt before they perished needed to be told. Halfway through this book, I can’t help but feel truly saddened by her story. Perhaps the worst tragedy was learning about how many people “tried” to help her from her mental & drug addictions & with most larger than life stars, dying alone.

marilynAlthough fascinating, I had to take a break for some gorgeous photography from The Satorialist. Scott Schuman’s blog by the same title, has been named one of Time magazine’s Top 100 Design Influencers & with good reason. His portraits manage to capture each city’s stylish essence so beautifully that it’s quite hard to resist flipping through the book in one sitting! So…in this world of computers, cellphones, & social networking hysteria, please pick up a book every once in awhile & read!

Monica is…paper dreams.

Perhaps coming across this photo of Zooey Dechanel, reminded me how gratifying it was to write letters & save polaroids. It’s strange that a co-worker & I couldn’t remember the last time we even held a pencil! (oh how the times have changed) I was such an avid journal collector. Cataloging every moment of my life & then reading them sometime later was so much fun! I still & always will have a fondness for fine stationary & the smell of paper…

Monica is…sillyness & housewares.

I think if I could have a dream house, it would definitely be a mid-century modern paradise. It would be spacious, airy, yet filled with fun pieces like the ones below.  I love when artists make such improvements on simple things. I quite enjoy the sillyness in these items & remind me that letting lose & being a kid ain’t so bad.

Monica is…leather luxe & shiny things.

Paris-born, Barbara Bui always leaves me wanting more. Her fall 2009 runway show had soo many great looks & just reafirmed my desire for the heat way to be way over. Mixed with shiny leathers, short dresses, & studded boots the collection had some enviable pieces that I hope somebody mimics these into more affordable fashion…love*
