Monica is…reading & happy.

Last week, I filled my apt with a binge fest of fall magazines & yummy reads! Seeing that funds are at low points this month & can’t bare to bring my “sky high” dreams down, I found these magazines & books to be quite relaxing & inspiring. The Satorialist by Scott Schuman & The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe by J. Randy Taraborrelli, were two books that sent my emotions on very opposite spectrums.

collageMany biographies have been written about Marilyn Monroe, but J. Randy Taraborrelli was able to compile a slew of never before seen photos & private stories from friends & family members, who felt before they perished needed to be told. Halfway through this book, I can’t help but feel truly saddened by her story. Perhaps the worst tragedy was learning about how many people “tried” to help her from her mental & drug addictions & with most larger than life stars, dying alone.

marilynAlthough fascinating, I had to take a break for some gorgeous photography from The Satorialist. Scott Schuman’s blog by the same title, has been named one of Time magazine’s Top 100 Design Influencers & with good reason. His portraits manage to capture each city’s stylish essence so beautifully that it’s quite hard to resist flipping through the book in one sitting! So…in this world of computers, cellphones, & social networking hysteria, please pick up a book every once in awhile & read!

Monica is…leather luxe & shiny things.

Paris-born, Barbara Bui always leaves me wanting more. Her fall 2009 runway show had soo many great looks & just reafirmed my desire for the heat way to be way over. Mixed with shiny leathers, short dresses, & studded boots the collection had some enviable pieces that I hope somebody mimics these into more affordable fashion…love*

Monica is…pretty persuasion.

I was flipping through UK Elle magazine, & found a piece on Rankin who shot the cover with crazy, Lindsay Lohan, but truthfully what caught my eye were the shots he took of Selma Blair. Pint-sized, pixie hair & effortless (especially when she was on zoe, duncan, jack & jane). I miss seeing her around, well her style that is…that last show she was on…sheesh!

Monica is…metal & studs.

It’s pretty easy to fall in love with the rocker-chic look splashed all across the magazines. Ebony black, metals, heavy studs & sumptuous leathers only fuel my desire for fall to arrive. It’s been a huge drag in Los Angeles due to the fires ( it’s in the 90’s!). It’s hard to get dressed & not feel like a sweat bucket, but in the meantime I will continue to count the days when I can wear boots & sweaters again. Dreaming….

Monica is…big planes & sharks.

Krysten Ritter is deliciously addicting. Getting her start as a model, starring in tons of movies & TV (breaking bad, gossip girls, 27 dresses) & now in her own band  Ex Vivian, Krysten fills my ipod with music happiness. Her style is quirky, retro & edgy all wrapped in one. Her pairings of girlie skirts & combat boots, remind me of the days when I used to wear floral overall-rompers & my wood heeled Sketchers (when they actually only made boots!). The grungy 90’s seemed just like yesterday…
